Newburyport Democratic City Committee
On Tuesday, September 1st, 2026, MA will hold its primary election and Democrats which choose who will represent us on the November 3rd ballot. In our district, we will choose a candidate for State Representative, for Congress and for Senate. Those are the key races where more than one Democrat is running.
State Representative
Two term incumbent Dawne Shand is running for re-election in the first Essex District, but being challenged by Salisbury attorney Stephen Roth in the primary. Learn more about the candidates here:

Both candidates will speak at our Tuesday, June 9th meeting, being held at 7:00 PM at the Newburyport Senior Community Center. All are welcome to attend.
Congress
With no incumbent running in the sixth congressional district, eight Democrats stepped up to run. Two have since dropped out and six candidates remain.

Senate Race
Incumbent Senator Ed Markey is being challenged by our current member of congress, Seth Moulton. As of May 30th, both candidates have earned a spot on the Democratic primary ballot, and Senator Markey has earned the endorsement of the MA Democratic Party.
